Subaccounts: organize your business funds under one main account

Modified on:

Subaccounts let you create additional accounts linked to your main Bitso Business account, so you can keep different funds, entities, or purposes separated while managing everything from one place.

Each subaccount has its own deposits, withdrawals, balances, and team access, but shares the transaction limits of your main account.

What you can do with subaccounts

  • Separate your funds by purpose, for example, keep treasury funds apart from your day-to-day payment operations.
  • Organize multiple entities or business lines under a single main account.
  • Keep balances and reporting organized across each subaccount, with everything connected to your main account.

Types of subaccount

There are two types of subaccount, depending on whether the new account belongs to the same company as your main account.

1. Same Tax ID (account duplication): available now, self-served

This is for creating a subaccount linked to the same company as your main account, to organize or segregate your own funds.

What you'll need:

  • Your main account must already be approved.
  • Complete a short compliance review questionnaire (Enhanced Due Diligence, or EDD).
  • Request to duplicate your existing account. The subaccount reuses your main account's verification, so you won't need to submit your company documents again.

Example: you use your main account to receive and send payments to third parties, and you create a subaccount to manage your treasury funds separately.

2. Different Tax ID (separate entity): contact support

This is for creating a subaccount for a different company (a separate legal entity), for example when you manage funds on behalf of your own clients.

What you'll need:

  • The subaccount goes through its own business identity verification (KYB, the business version of identity verification), using that company's documentation.
  • Complete the compliance review, plus a few additional documents required when the structure involves third-party funds.
  • For now, subaccounts with a different Tax ID aren't available through the self-served flow in your Bitso Business dashboard. Request a different-Tax-ID subaccount from support and the team will guide you through the process.

Examples:

  • You manage payments and trades on behalf of a client, who retains ownership of their funds in a dedicated subaccount.
  • You manage treasury for two subsidiaries of your company based in different countries, and you keep a separate subaccount for each jurisdiction.

What to keep in mind

  • Every subaccount goes through a compliance review. Because subaccounts link accounts together, all requests go through this review before the subaccount is activated.
  • Subaccounts share your main account's limits. They don't have separate transaction limits.
  • Viewing and operating are different. From your main account you can see your subaccounts and their balances. To operate or transact within a subaccount, use multi-user access to grant the right permissions.

How to create a subaccount with the same Tax ID

You can create a subaccount with the same Tax ID as your main account directly from your Bitso Business dashboard:

  1. Go to the Profile section in your Bitso Business dashboard.
  2. Open Subaccounts.
  3. Select Duplicate from an existing account.
  4. Choose the account you want to duplicate.
  5. Complete the compliance review questionnaire.
  6. Confirm your identity with two-step verification.
  7. Submit your request.

Once submitted, your request goes through review. When it's approved, your new subaccount is created and you'll receive an email inviting you to set up a password to access it.

You can find all your subaccounts and their statuses on the Subaccounts management page, under Profile in your dashboard.
